The trade of the 2010-11 NBA Season, Carmelo Anthony going from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks. Is it working out, the stats say no, but that isn’t everything. The Knicks are 7-9 following the trade, granted that this team hasn’t had time to play together, but, even when the Heat had their rough start to the season, they weren’t this bad.

Carmelo Anthony needs to step up. Last night when the Knicks played the Boston Celtics, Melo went for 17 in the first half, to lead the Knicks to a 14 point lead. The second half was an entirely different story, Melo didn’t make a shot in the second half, and the Celtics rallied to win by 10. He has had a rough time in the clutch situation, missing open looks and such. He isn’t playing his game, partly because he is in a new system, partly because he isn’t comfortable.

This shows some major problems that are beneath the surface in this Knick team. They have lost some close games, to sub par teams. Teams like the Pacers, Bucks, Pistons, Grizzlies, and the Cavaliers. There is something wrong with the team if they are losing to bottom feeders like these. There aren’t many teams in the league that has lost to a list of teams like the Knicks have.

The Knicks are going to have to make some adjustments, they are going to have to figure out how much to adapt to Carmelo, and Carmelo needs to adapt to the system that the Knicks use. If they don’t find a happy medium, the crisis they are going through now is going to continue, and they will stay a .500 team, without playoff hopes. Kind of sad for a team with three super stars, Stoudemire, Billups, and Anthony.
